ALTAVERDE CONSULTING TO SUPPORT PRIVATE-PUBLIC PARTNERSHIPS
AltaVerde Consulting is supporting two on-going projects with the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) on collaborations with private sector entities in two countries in Africa. IFC is the largest environmental and development organization that is exclusively focused on the private sector, and particularly on expanding the reach of climate business in developing countries.
The purpose of these on-going projects is to identify the potential for a private sector role in the REDD+ Emission Reductions Program Document (ERPDs) for two countries in Africa. AltaVerde consultants are helping to identify potential private-sector partners, barriers and gaps to the project’s on-the-ground implementation, and the key elements and estimated costs for capacity building in each county.
Both of the countries upon which AV will focus are highly biodiverse and belong to the group of ‘least developed countries’. Forests have been dramatically reduced in quality and scale in the past decades in both countries, and endemic biodiversity is considered in danger from human encroachment. Private investment and private-public partnerships are key to protecting forests and species in these important ecosystems, as capital market mechanisms can directly invest money in areas where public funding is not available.
